Coming of Age

What a day! Definitely had a "Kids do the darnedest things" kind of day. It all started with our bathroom break...

Every day we go for a drink/bathroom break mid-morning (they're five, remember?) and the last couple days, we've had issues with the girls room. So it was no surprise when Sunny, one of my supervisors, rushed my girls right before they entered the bathroom telling them they had to use the boys room.

The girls took this as a cue to rush into the boys room. Just as my two boys were dropping trou. And of course, all the girls stopped, shocked at being confronted with the male form in all its splendor and did what every five-year-old girl would do in that situation. They giggled.

The boys, on the other hand, were not embarrassed in the slightest to have been caught...well, with their pants down. They just continued on their merry way.

I shepherded my girls to wait out in the hallway while the boys finished their business. Once the boys began washing their hands, I figured it would be safe to let my girls use the bathroom stalls. Of course, this was mistake #2.

After about a minute, one of my boys shouts to the other "Check this out! This is so cool!" while he was washing his hands, no doubt exclaiming over the wonder of bubbles. My littlest girl, Stella, overcome with curiosity, rushes out of her stall, pants around her ankles, to check out whatever is so cool, unabashedly shuffling over to the boys, all the while showing off what she's got.

And of course, the moment we're finished with the restroom and my class lines up to head back to our classroom, I see my most outspoken student, Amy, grab Matthew's face. I get ready to scold her for hitting or pinching or whatever it is that she is going to do to him when she forcefully kisses him all over his face. To his credit, Matthew wiped off his face and probably said something equivalent of "Ew, girls!" in Korean.

I'm glad to know our adventures in the bathroom didn't ruin anyone's innocence...
